Stage 31: Anything Gogo's

Video Guide

Note

This guide assumes that you have read the Basics & Spell Recommendations page and have the baseline spells recommended there.

Required Spells

  • Diamondback
  • Exuviation
  • Eerie Soundwave

Act 1

In this stage we have to fight Gogo the Mimic from FFVI! Gogo begins the fight by casting Mimic and dancing in place for 8 seconds. If we attack Gogo at all during this, even if it doesn’t do damage, he will kill us. You can deal damage before the Mimic cast finishes, and channeled spells like Apokalypsis strangely don’t actually trigger Mimic. Once Mimic wears off he casts Mimicked Flamethrower, but we can just heal up after. He will then cast Mimicked Sap which is similar to Siegfried’s Hyperdrive, but it gets faster with each AOE. Once the cast starts you just need to start moving and not stop until after the third one is done. Immediately afterwards Gogo will cast Mimicked Imp Song which needs to be interrupted with Flying Sardine. Gogo follows up with Mimicked Doom Impending which is the same as in Stage 28: Dangerous When Dead , so heal yourself to full before the cast finishes. He will then use Mimic again so make sure to not attack while he has the buff up!

Once Mimic falls off, Gogo casts Mimicked Bunshin and spawns a clone in the center of the arena. The clone casts Mimicked Protean Wave which is two cone AOEs with a safe spot in the middle. At the same time Gogo casts Mimicked Fire Blast which is a line AOE. This is pretty trivially dodged by running behind the clone and then dodging the line AOE, or standing in the safe spot between the two cone AOEs and then dodging the line AOE. See the video above if you’re struggling with the positioning.

After the clone despawns, Gogo will cast Mimicked Raw Instinct which gives a critical hit rate up buff. This can be removed with Eerie Soundwave but it doesn’t need to be removed. At this point Gogo will just repeat mechanics until defeated.

Act 2

Act 2 is quite a bit more difficult than Act 1. Gogo opens with Gogo Fire III which applies Pyretic, so we cannot move or use any spells or we will take a ton of damage. He follows up with Gogo Blizzard III which is a point-blank AOE. We can avoid this by being away from Gogo before we actually get the Pyretic debuff so that we are already out of range of the follow-up AOE. Next Gogo casts Gogo Thunder III which leaves a puddle on the ground, so just move out of the way. He follows up with Gogo Flare and Gogo Holy, which are just unavoidable hits, so you just need to heal up between the hits.

The next part is one of the trickier parts of this act. Gogo moves to the center and casts Gogo Meteor. This spawns a ton of ground-targeted AOEs as well as proximity AOEs. Make sure to go to the opposite side of each proximity AOE while carefully avoiding the other AOEs. At the end there will be a huge meteor that covers the entire arena. You can either Swiftcast into Diamondback in the center of the arena, or even better position yourself on one of the cardinal directions and cast Diamondback since it will make the next bit easier.

Gogo casts Charybdis which creates tornadoes on the intercardinals. If we positioned ourselves in a cardinal before, then we’re already safe from this. He will then cast Icestorm which applies Heavy and Frostbite debuffs to us which both need to be cleansed with Exuviation. Gogo will then cast Gogo Thunder III three times in a row, so just move out of the way as they are cast. At this point the fight loops, so rinse and repeat until Gogo is defeated.

Achievement Info

The achievement “Violets Are Violet,” which rewards the title “Of of the Truest Blue,” is earned by completing this stage while earning the “Pure Azure” feat. This is accomplished by completing this stage while satisfying these requirements:

  • Too Fast, Too Furious (6:50 or faster)
  • No vuln stacks (don’t get hit by avoidable AOEs, Pyretic damage is actually fine)

There is no tangible difference in strategy, you just need to complete the stage quickly while avoiding any damage that can be avoided. There is no requirement for Total Mastery like with the other achievements, so we can just use whatever we want. I still prefer healer mimicry for this since it feels safer overall, but if you’re struggling to meet the time check then you can bring DPS mimicry and heal yourself with White Wind instead. The time requirement is pretty tight, so I would not recommend trying this achievement until you have most of your spells. Newer spells like Mortal Flame and Breath of Magic can do some really heavy lifting here for you. Cold Fog is a huge gain because you can continue to deal damage while still avoiding mechanics. You can use Final Sting and still get the achievement. If fully buffed, Final Sting will deal about 16% of Gogo’s health.
