About Blue Academy

I (Liam Galt) started playing Blue Mage in mid-2020, about 6 months after the Morbol patch was released. I immediately fell in love with the job; I leveled up, learned all the spells, blasted through the Masked Carnivale, and completed the Blue Mage log in just two weekends!

I wanted to jump right into Savage raiding and work towards getting the Morbol mount.. but there was a serious lack of resources. Most Blue Mage knowledge was spread across random Discord screenshots or Reddit posts and there was no cohesion between any of them. This frustrated the hell out of me, so I started the Blue Academy YouTube channel! The YouTube channel started out mostly just with Masked Carnivale guides and some basic gameplay advice, but eventually I started working on other things like Savage guides and theorycrafting.

At the time there were a bunch of Blue Mage Discord servers, usually one for each data center (except Crystal had three!), and there wasn’t a ton of cohesion across those servers, either. I spun up the Blue Academy Discord server to try to create a more centralized location.. and it grew really fast! After about a month it was already the largest Blue Mage Discord server and we started having some great conversations and standardizing on some resources and strategies.

After a couple of years it became pretty apparent for a variety of reasons that Discord is not the ideal place to store information long-term:

  • There’s not an easy way to collaborate on messages; bots can be used but they’re usually clunky.
  • Not everyone even likes using Discord, so it creates a barrier to entry.
  • When something is updated on Discord, it’s essentially impossible to update all references to the thing that was updated.

Because of all of this, I wanted to spin up a website and allow anyone to contribute, so here we are! If you want to contribute to the website, you can do so via the GitHub repo. Adding new pages and editing existing pages is pretty straightforward, it’s all just done via markdown. If you have a suggestion, but don’t want to contribute yourself, you can create an issue on the repo as well!
